課程概述

Course Description:

This course is designed to acquaint the students with not only traditional investigations of comparative literature as an academic discipline, but also contemporary developments and configurations of it. The perspectives of comparative literature, therefore, are explored through the study of such topics as influence studies, parallel studies, Sino-Western literary relations, poetics, philology, and genre studies. Alternative concepts of comparative literature in recent development like post-colonial approaches, cultural studies, gender studies, religious studies, political criticism, and thematics will be explored, too. With the recent appearance of translation studies as a discipline in its own right, this course will broaden its scope of study to include it and prioritize it in its exploration of especially such topics as imitation, adaptation and literary relations.

課程目標
Course Objectives:
For term papers, students are allowed to do such traditional topics in the field of comparative literature as influence studies and parallel studies; they are also encouraged to do any of recent developments in comparative studies of literature or even interdisciplinary works between literature and other fields. Students are expected thus to familiarize themselves with both literary theories and comparison of, for instance, Chinese literature with other literature(s) they are specifically interested in. In a word, this course is devoted as its goal of pursuit to producing comparatists in good command of both literary and interdisciplinary studies between literatures and other fields of the humanities, translation studies in particular.
